What is Verb?

"Verb" is an action word or a "doing" word that shows what a person, animal, or thing is doing.

These are fundamental words that describe actions such as run, jump, sing, eat, read, and sleep.

Identifying verbs in a sentence:

To find the verb in a sentence, ask yourself: "What is the person, animal, or thing doing?" The answer will be the verb.
Example:
  • Sentence: The cat sleeps on the mat.
  • Question: What is the cat doing?
  • Answer: The cat is sleeping.
  • Verb: sleeps

How to use verbs in a sentence:

The verb usually comes right after the person or thing doing the action.
Examples:
  1. The dog runs.
  2. The boy sings a song.
  3. We play football.
